Neil Arnold, who also passed the stranded vehicle, said: "On popping in to Ilminster with my wife to partake of a coffee at the Ilminster Arts Centre on Friday morning, I was surprised to see a car straddling the wall by Frog lane.
"Two members of the Constabulary were guarding the lane and allowed us to pass 'at our own risk'.
"We saw a pickup truck from Slades garage equipped with a large hydraulic crane trying to work out how to rescue the stricken vehicle.
