THE Ilminster Carnival Committee has announced the cancellation of this year's Children's Carnival, citing a lack of entries.

In a statement released to the public, organisers said the decision had been a difficult one and was made only after careful consideration.

The committee said: "Sharing news of an event cancellation is something we never want to do.

"This has been a very difficult decision for our committee, and one we have not taken lightly."

According to the statement, the Children's Carnival is no longer viable to run this year because of the low number of entries received.

"It is with regret that Ilminster Carnival Committee has taken the difficult decision to cancel this year's Children's Carnival," the statement read.

Organisers were keen to reassure the community that the cancellation only affects the Children's Carnival and that plans for the evening carnival remain unchanged.

Despite the setback, the committee is already looking ahead to the future and is encouraging new people to get involved in helping to shape next year's festivities.

The statement added: "We are already looking ahead to next year and would welcome new members and supporters to bring fresh ideas and help support our events."

Anyone interested in supporting the carnival or joining the committee is invited to contact organisers via chairlady@ilminstercarnival.com.

The committee thanked the public for its understanding and continued support as it begins preparations for future events.
