An Ilminster care home's summer fete has been hailed a "fantastic success" after drawing crowds and raising funds for residents.
Horton Cross Nursing Home opened its doors to residents, families, friends, and the wider community on Saturday, July 25, for a lively event in support of its in-house activities programme.
The day began with a warm welcome from Adam Dance, the Liberal Democrat MP for Yeovil, who officially opened the event alongside Michelle Gunn, mayor of Ilminster, and Cllr Val Keitch.
Their presence, said organisers, highlighted the value of community involvement and the important role care homes play in supporting older people.
A surprise appearance from Mr Dance's donkey, Rupert, proved a highlight for many.
Eleanor-Luminita Porancea, registered general manager at Horton Cross Nursing Home, said: "Our summer fete was a fantastic success and it was wonderful to see so many people come together to support our residents.
"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated prizes, provided entertainment, or helped make the day such a memorable occasion.
"Rupert's surprise visit was a wonderful addition to the afternoon and brought so much joy to our residents and visitors.
"Community events like this are so important in helping our residents remain connected with local people while raising funds that enable us to provide an even wider range of meaningful activities and experiences throughout the year."
Entertainment throughout the day included a performance from the Martock majorette troupe and live music from professional singer Laura Churchyard, whose grandmother is a resident at the home.
Guests enjoyed stalls, games, a raffle, face painting by Creative Mojo, cream teas, and Tiki Bar refreshments.
The event gave residents a chance to enjoy time with family, friends, and the wider community in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
Horton Cross Nursing Home extended thanks to everyone who contributed, all volunteers, donors, and businesses who supported the raffle.
Funds raised will go towards enhancing the home's activities, outings, entertainment, hobbies, and therapeutic experiences for residents.
