At a time when the cost of living is shaping many people's lives, an Ilminster pub says an evening out should still be affordable for locals – and is cutting prices across the bar and kitchen to prove it.
The George Ilminster has slashed some drink and food prices and expanded its daily Happy Hour in a bid to keep the venue accessible during the cost of living crisis.
The pub says it wants to offer something positive to its patrons, with discounts on pints, wine, spirits and family‑friendly meal deals every week.

Writing on social media, the pub said: "At a time when the cost of living leads everyday decisions, we believe that going to the pub should remain accessible.
"That's why we've reduced prices across the bar and our food menu, as well as introduced an expanded Happy Hour offering. It's our way of ensuring that the people of Ilminster can be together, raise a glass, and enjoy everything there is to love about going to your local boozer."
A spokesperson for The George Ilminster told the Chard and Ilminster News: "We have cut prices across the board to help customers in these difficult times and to stimulate the local economy.
"We are trying to create something positive as we are all slightly bored of hearing how hard it is for pubs and other small business in 2026. "
They added: "Happy Hour is every day 3-5pm with pints from £4, wine for £5 and spirits from just £3. We also have £10 burgers every Tuesday and 2 Fish & Chips for £25 on Fridays."
