THE team running a pub near Ilminster, recently named among the top 50 best in the UK, has said they are “delighted” to receive the recognition.

Five Somerset pubs have been named among England's top 50 pubs with rooms by the Telegraph - and The Barrington Boar is one of them.

The publication wrote: "Once simple roadside inns for weary travellers, pubs with rooms have transformed radically into destinations in their own right, often more boutique hotels than basic boozers.

"Now there’s rolltop baths and Michelin-starred food, craft ales and curated wine lists as a new generation of publicans put their stamp on our local institutions."

Since taking over The Barrington Boar in June 2018, husband-and-wife team Alasdair Clifford and Victoria Collins have established it as a contemporary pub and restaurant, as well as a bed and breakfast.

Responding to the achievement, Victoria and Alasdair both said: “We are delighted to be included in the ‘50 best pubs with rooms in England’ list in The Telegraph.

“It is always an honour to be included in these lists. We would like to thank all of our customers & staff for their continued support of The Boar & our Bakery.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone in 2026.”

The kitchen is headed by chef Alasdair Clifford, who grew up locally and has over ten years of experience working in Michelin-starred restaurants, including Chez Bruce and The Glasshouse.

The menu highlights locally sourced, seasonal ingredients from nearby farmers, foragers, brewers, and cheesemongers.

The bar serves a range of South West products, including regional ales, ciders, craft beers, gins, and English sparkling wines.

Victoria added: “We are passionate about the provenance of our food and source the majority of our produce from the farmers, foragers, brewers and cheesemongers living within a few miles of the restaurant.”

The property also includes four bed and breakfast rooms, converted from a former skittle alley and overlooking the garden.
