A WOMAN has been taken to hospital with “life-threatening” injuries following a two-vehicle collision near Ilminster on Friday (December 5).

Avon and Somerset Police were called to a serious collision involving two vehicles on Bay Hill, Whitelackington, near Ilminster, at around 3.35pm on Friday, December 5.

Following the crash, a woman in her late eighties is still being treated in hospital with injuries believed to be “life-threatening”, police have said.

Officers have informed her next of kin.

A second woman, aged in her mid-sixties, also suffered injuries which were not considered to be serious and has since been discharged from the hospital to continue her recovery.

The road was fully closed while emergency services attended the scene from Park Lane and has since been reopened.

Any witnesses and those with information on the incident, or anybody with CCTV or dashcam footage immediately before or after the incident, are encouraged to come forward and call the police on 101 quoting reference 5225341857.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 15.33hrs on Friday, December 5, to a road traffic collision near Ilminster.

"We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, an operations officer, a rapid response vehicle, and two critical care cars to the scene.

"We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Yeovil District Hospital and another patient by land ambulance to Southmead Hospital.”
