ILMINSTER Town Council will mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings with a series of events.

The events will take place on June 6 and will start at 8am with a proclamation from the Town Crier.

The full list includes:

  • 8am – Town Crier will be performing a proclamation cry in The Market House.
  • 6.30pm – The bells at the Minster will be rung.
  • 8.15pm - Everyone to meet at the Market House to be able to leave promptly by 8.30pm. The Carnival Marshalls will be available to make sure that everyone can cross safely and the cadets will be lighting up the path to the Beacon.
  • 9.15pm – The Mayor will read the International Tribute and The Beacon will be lit.

A message from Ilminster Town Council read: “Come and join us to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

“We will be marking this occasion starting with a proclamation from the Town Crier at 8am.

“Later in the evening, we will be making our way up to The Beacon with a tribute read out by The Mayor and the lighting of The Beacon.

“This is a public event so please spread the word. We hope to see as many of you there as possible.”
