THE section of the A303 that was closed due to flooding has now reopened.

National Highways announced earlier this morning (Friday, December 8) that closure had been lifted on the road eastbound between the A358 Southfields Roundabout near Ilminster and the A3088 Cartgate Roundabout.

A spokesperson said: "Thanks for your patience Somerset."

The road was closed yesterday due to flooding caused by heavy rain on the saturated fields next to road causing a significant amount of water run-off on to the road.

National Highways contractors attended to clear the excess water.

By yesterday evening the flooding had receded sufficiently for the road to be reopened, however the left lane initially remained closed, leading to slow traffic through the area.

The road is this morning back to normal.
