A ROAD that was shut due to flooding yesterday (Monday, December 4) is now “passable with care”.

The A358 at Donyatt/Peasmarsh was “impassable both ways” after the heavy downpours that affected Somerset.

The road was flooded from Ilminster turn off (Peasmarsh) to The Monks Yard Cafe (Horton Cross).”

On Monday, the A358 Chard Road was "just passable due to flooding between Chard and Axminster".

At various stages several major roads needed to be closed due to flooding, including the A356 between the A303 and Crewkerne.

This morning (Tuesday, December 5), Travel Somerset said the road is now “passable with care”.

Several major roads in the area, however, are still reported closed following flooding.

Here is the latest round-up from Somerset Council’s traffic authority.

A South Somerset Neighbourhood Policing spokesperson said: "Officers from across South Somerset have been dealing with a huge amount of broken down vehicles and collisions due to the road conditions.

"It is important to keep in mind that 30cm of water is enough to move a car."

They added: "We are aware of flooding across the south of the county. Officers have put police road closures in place in various locations."

The public is asked to monitor Environment Agency flood warnings and alerts, taking precautionary steps where needed.
