VOLUNTEERS in Ilminster will be installing a Christmas tree this evening (Thursday, November 9) for the first time in around 20 years to mark the start of the festive season.

The Christmas lights volunteers will place the tree next to the Market House as the town gets ready for the festive lights switch-on event taking place later this month.

Ilminster Town Council said is “looking forward to having the tree” and is also reminding residents of some parking restrictions.

A spokesperson for Ilminster Town Council said: “This evening (Thursday, November 9), the Christmas Lights volunteers will be installing a Christmas tree next to the Market House.

“In order to do this safely, they will need to use the parking space area next to it.

“Cones will be put out to block off this parking space, so please don't move the cones and park there.

“We're looking forward to having the tree in the centre of town ready for the Christmas lights switch on.”

The Ilminster Christmas Lights group said the tree will be installed this evening between 6pm and 7pm.

The llminster Christmas Lights switch-on will take place on November 24.

For this year's Christmas lights display, more than £422 was raised from the sale of coffee and cakes, a raffle, and donations.
