ILMINSTER Christmas Lights committee held a successful coffee morning on Saturday in the Market House to raise funds for this year's display.

A total of £422 was raised from the sale of coffee and cakes, a raffle, and donations.

The committee would like to thank Tesco and The Co-op for their donations and all those who donated cakes.

A spokesperson said: “The event would not have been a success without the support of our willing helpers and the generosity of the public.

“This year there has been a huge investment in new lights and additional displays to produce a bigger and brighter spectacle.

“The switch-on event this year is on November 24. Live music, food, and drink from 5pm with the switch-on taking place at 7pm with special guests.

“Before this, school choirs will perform during the afternoon in the market house and a Christmas fair will run from 2pm to 8pm in the parish hall.

“The team of volunteers has already started erecting this year's displays, which will continue to be put up over the next few weeks throughout the town, which includes improved and refreshed garlands, additional trees, and new lights.”
