FIREFIGHTERS were called out to tackle a blaze involving two vans yesterday evening (Thursday, August 24).

The crew from Ilminster Fire Station were sent to the incident on the A303 shortly before 5.30pm, with reports of the two vehicles well alight.

After 'knocking back' the flames and smoke, they managed to gain access to both the vans and completely extinguish the fires.

Firefighters from Chard assisted.

Later in the evening, the Ilminster team were sent to deal with a fire in the open near the beacon in Ilminster that was caused by children setting light to a large fallen tree trunk.

A 4X4 off road vehicle from Taunton Fire Station was summoned due to the difficult access to the scene.

A spokesperson for Ilminster Fire Station said: "Please can parents remind their children that whilst we are at incidents such as this, we are not able to respond to other emergencies in the town or surrounding area."
