THE Ilminster Literary Festival’s poetry recital final was held at Herne View Church of England Primary.

A spokesperson said: “We have been running the poetry recital competition since the first year of the Literary Festival and this year saw over 120 children from seven local schools (Herne View, Manor Court Primary, Haselbury Plucknett Primary, Merriott Primary, Combe St Nicholas Primary, Ashlands Primary, and Hinton St George Primary) competing.

Chard & Ilminster News:

“The children all had to learn a poem by heart and then perform this for an audience made up of families, staff from the schools, and a panel of judges from the Ilminster Literary Festival.

“The standard this year was exceptionally high and saw children performing poetry old and new including some very dramatic presentations from Shakespeare’s Macbeth.”
