FIREFIGHTERS had to cut free a person in a car that had left the road and crashed two metres down into a garden.

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) control centre was alerted to the incident in Ilminster by the South Western Ambulance Service.

Fire crews from Ilminster, Chard and Taunton attended the incident yesterday (Monday, June 5) shortly after 4pm.

A DSFRS spokesperson said: "Fire control received a call from the Ambulance Service asking for assistance with a road traffic collision in Ilminster.

"Crews from Ilminster, Chard, and Taunton were mobilised to a car that had left the roadway and gone down an approximately six-foot drop into a garden with two persons trapped within the vehicle. Ambulance and police were also in attendance.

"One occupant of the vehicle was able to self rescue from the vehicle and crews got to work with hydraulic cutting equipment to rescue the second occupant from the vehicle.

"Casualties were left in the care of the ambulance service."
