A FUNDRAISING coffee morning held in Ilminster has raised over £4,000 for a cancer support charity that helps people across the UK.

The Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning was held at the Archie Gooch Pavilion on Saturday, September 10.

Guests enjoyed browsing stalls including cakes and jam, knick-knacks, plants and bulbs, and bric-a-brac, socialising with friends, and taking part in a raffle.

During the coffee morning, the Rev Jo Stobart, Vicar of Ilminster and Whitelackington, gave a short address in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

A minute's silence was also held to honour the UK's longest-reigning monarch.

The organising team of Angie Blackwell from Cottage Flowers, former mayor Julie Fowler, Ilminster Lions Club president Shirley Farley, and Lions member Glenys Whaites were pleased with how the day went.

Julie said: “Whilst we remembered our late Queen, it was fitting that the proceeds of the event will provide much needed help and succour to those facing the biggest challenge of their life.

“A big thank you to all those who gave so generously of their time and effort as well as those that supported the event on the day; it was a marvellous result and could not have been achieved without great team work from everyone.

“Thank you, Ilminster.”
