AN Ilminster man is hoping his homemade plum and apple chutney will prove to be a ‘recipe for success’ at an upcoming charity coffee morning.

The event will be held on Saturday, September 10 from 9:30am until 12pm at the Archie Gooch Pavilion in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

It will feature several stalls selling cakes, jam and preserves; plants and bulbs, knick-knacks, and bric-a-brac.

Last year's Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning at the pavilion raised an incredible £3,812.

One stallholder is Neil Roden, whose plum and apple chutney will be available to purchase at the coffee morning.

He said: “The recipe for this chutney has been handed down in our family for generations – and, of course, there is the secret ingredient which makes it so special.

“I support wholeheartedly the wonderful work which Macmillan Cancer Support provides and I am delighted to have this opportunity to help.”

The plums and apples used in his chutney come from the orchard of Angie Blackwell, an award-winning florist located at Cottage Flowers (Jordans Courtyard, Horton Cross).

There will also be a raffle with a number of luxury hampers available to win.

Macmillan Cancer Support encourages local communities to host their own coffee mornings to raise vital funds.

A Macmillan spokesperson said: “Macmillan's Coffee Morning is our biggest fundraising event to support people living with cancer

“People all over the UK host their own coffee morning and donations raised on the day are made to Macmillan.

“A coffee morning can be whatever you want it to be. It could be at home, on your driveway, a hall or online, whatever suits you best.

“You can hold a garden get-together and throw a barbeque, or treat your colleagues to some homemade bakes, or even get together with friends for a takeaway.

“In 2021, we raised over £11 million and hope to top that this year.”
