A WOMAN has turned her front door into a drop-off point for all those who want to donate clothes to Ukrainian people.

Sylvia Duley, who will turn 95 this week, from East Coker, started her collection around two weeks ago when she put yellow and blue signs outside her house asking residents for donations.

Mrs Duley has always been very keen on “supporting people in need” and has always been “very anti-war”.

Her daughter-in-law, Kate Buchanan, said: “She has always helped others. She has always been very keen on supporting people in need.

“She was a Samaritan for many years to support people in distress. Back in the 1980s she supported the miners.

“She has been very distraught about the news in Ukraine, she has always been very anti-war.”

Mrs Buchanan said her mother-in-law put signs outside her front door to ask people to drop off clothes, sleeping bags, jumpers, and shoes.

The donations will be sent to Yeovil and from there they will then reach Ukraine through Poland.

She also said: “She is very independent and strong-minded and she just wanted to help. She was pleased by the support of all the people in the village.

“She was weary that for her age is tricky to help people but she felt this [the clothes collection] was the way she could help.

“I think she will go on, she is very happy to go on. People will see the signs when they drive through East Coker. I am amazed at what she is doing.”
