DRIVERS are being advise to plan ahead of overnight A303 closures for essential safety work

National Highways will be carrying out a number of safety improvements to the A303 between Southfields roundabout at Ilminster and the A30 junction west of Newcott, starting on Monday night (March 14).

The work involves surfacing and pothole repairs to help to ensure safe journeys for motorists, while drainage maintenance, vegetation clearance and sign repairs will reduce the need for future closures along the road.

For safety, the A303 will be closed from Southfields roundabout and the A30 junction west of Newcott from 8pm to 4am, Monday to Friday, with locally signed diversions in place via Stockland Hill and the A35.

During the day the road will be open as usual.

Julian Strong, service delivery manager for National Highways, said: “We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, but we are making every effort to ensure the impact on the local community is kept to an absolute minimum.

“We’d like to thank motorists in advance for their patience while this essential safety and maintenance work is carried out.”

National Highways will be carrying out multiple tasks at various locations and where possible the noisiest works will be completed before 11pm, and access for residents will be maintained but may involve a short delay depending on the stage of work.
