THE children and families of St Mary and St Peter’s Church School, Ilton, and Shepton Beauchamp Church School both held Christingle services yesterday (Wednesday, December 1).

The events marked the beginning of Advent as we prepare to celebrate Jesus's birth.

The pupils prepared readings about Mary’s selection as Christ's mother and the start of her journey to Bethlehem with Joseph.

The children made their Christingle candles a central part of their services as they learned about the significance of Christingle.

To complete the services, all of the families of both schools were invited to begin making an Advent Chain. Each family will make a link to the chain and the chain will grow in links as Christmas Day approaches.

Connel Boyle, executive headteacher of the Three Saints Federation, said: “It has been superb to be able to have our families and children come together to celebrate Advent for the first time in two years.

"Our children practised so hard at their singing and readings as they really wanted to provide a quality performance for our two school communities.

"We cannot wait for our Christmas plays next week.”
