PREPARATIONS are taking place to light up a South Somerset town in time for Christmas this year.

The team of volunteers in Ilminster are getting the decorations sorted, ready for the switch on event on November 19 at 7pm.

They started putting up decorations on October 17, and have been out every Sunday since to make sure the town is ready.

The Christmas festival will include a fun fair, mulled cider and wine, music, food and children's choirs in Market House.

"With fun, games, food and music, the night is set to kick start the festive season," said a spokesperson for Ilminster Christmas Lights.

"We remind people to act responsibly and be safe throughout the night. Some shops will be able to open but others may not, due to individual shop owners ability to keep all customers safe under Covid precautions.

"We look forward to a great night and seeing you all on the November 19."

Ilminster town centre will be closed from 5pm until 9pm.
