PUPILS at a first school in Ilminster joined in with the carnival spirit this month - by creating umbrellas and carnival floats.

Greenfylde First School held their annual umbrella competition on October 1, and members of Ilminster Carnival Committee judged around 100 entries.

Winners were chosen in Reception, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two.

Pupils at the school also created carnival floats to decorate the town too - at Ilminster Emporium and Ilminster Hair and Beauty.

Claire Oaten, headteacher at the school, said: "I want to thank Ilminster Carnival Committee for again sponsoring the umbrella event which brings much joy and many smiles to all.

"'We’ve also had lots of fun making our displays for the town and we hope we have brought a little of the spirit of carnival to the Ilminster community."
