AN industrial unit near Ilminster has been badly damaged after a fire last night (September 30).
A passer-by called the fire brigade after noticing smoke coming from the unit, in Ilton, at around 6.10pm.
Fire crews from Ilminster and Chard were sent to the scene, along with the aerial ladder platform from Taunton, said a Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.
"On arrival crews immediately requested another three pumping appliances from Taunton, Chard and Martock to attend to assist as the property was heavily smoke logged," they said.
"The fire within the building, of corrugated panel construction, was located on a mezzanine level.
"Crews used eight breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and one attack jet to extinguish the fire."
The property was 40% damaged by fire and 80% damaged by smoke and heat, they added.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
