ONE of the largest town crier competitions in England took place in Somerset at the weekend.
On Saturday, September 18, Ilminster hosted the competition, which started with a parade of criers and escorts from Ilminster Arts Centre to the Market Square.
Winners of the competition included:
- Champion Crier - Christian Ashdown, Haslemere
- Second - Jon Bartholomew, Hastings
- Third - Mark Wylie, Calne
- Best Dressed Crier - Les Ellis, Dartmouth
- Best Dressed Escort - Joan Dauncey, Melksham
- Best Dressed Couple - Chris and Jennifer Smirthwaite, Liskeard
- Best Home Town Ambassador - Les Ellis, Dartmouth
- Junior Champion Crier - Harry Lewis, Hatherleigh
