A Crewkerne teacher has published a new book aimed at helping schools take practical climate action.
Edd Moore, an award-winning primary teacher, eco coordinator, and climate education consultant, is the author of 100 Ideas for Primary Teachers: Greener School, published by Bloomsbury.
The book is designed to help teachers and schools begin or continue their environmental journey towards becoming zero-carbon.
Mr Moore said: "The 100 ideas are all tried and tested practical activities and projects that I have used in my teaching over the last 13 years.
"These can be woven through subjects and a school’s curriculum.
"This handbook supports school staff who can pick up the book and refer to it throughout, giving them continuous support and guidance about what and how they can teach climate change, saving them time and energy."
The book is organised into 10 environmental topics, including marine life, biodiversity, transport, energy, and global citizenship.
It aligns with the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy, the Eco-Schools’ topics, and the Let’s Go Zero objectives, the latter of which is endorsing the book.
Other endorsements include the Foundation for Environment Education (FEE) and the Department for Education through the Climate Ambassadors Scheme.
For each idea, there are 'bonus' and 'taking it further' ideas to help pupils lead the way and take their learning forward.
The book also recommends six external organisations that schools should sign up with before selecting ideas to implement, offering additional free support and guidance.
