THE inaugural Healthy Living and Wellbeing Fayre is being held at Crewkerne's Henhayes Centre on Saturday October 29.

The free event between 10am and 4pm is open to residents of all ages living in South Somerset.

Led by a group of local GP surgeries, the fayre will feature a range of organisations that will engage with local people to support them in making healthy lifestyle choices in areas such as exercise, nutrition, mental health and local support networks.

Features throughout the day will include nature walks, classes on making cheap and healthy meals, health coaches giving personal advice on mental and physical health, money saving tips and family-focused activities such as facepainting and colouring for children.

There are free refreshments and healthy snacks and visitors can get on the smoothie bike to make their very own smoothie while burning calories.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Tim Quinlan, clinical director with South Somerset West Primary Care Network, said: “We know many people within South Somerset are worried about heading into winter.

"This may be health concerns, money worries, or fear of loneliness over the long colder months.

"We recognised, along with a group of other key organisations, that we had a great opportunity to put on an event that is open to our whole community to help tackle some of these issues.

"We wanted to create something that is fun to attend but, most importantly, one that can make a difference and can directly offer support and advice.”

“Everyone is welcome to come along and join in, but we are particularly keen to see people within the community who we do not always get to meet or use our healthcare services.

"Often those who are slightly younger, aged between 18 and 44, and who have a variety of physical and mental health concerns.

"There are many organisations and groups in our area, as well as our medical practices, who have plenty of useful and free advice and support that can be offered and we wanted to create an environment that is welcoming to all,"

In addition to the GP surgeries, other organisations lending their time and support on the day include Somerset Wildlife Trust, Crewkerne Community Kitchen, Ark at Egwood, Crewkerne Aqua Centre and Smokefree Somerset.
