A CREWKERNE man has died after he was hit by a van as he changed a tyre on his car.

The victim, who has not yet been named but is believed to be in his 50s, was struck by the van on the A30 at Alphington, Exeter.

Emergency services were called at 12.25pm yesterday (Monday) to reports that a grey Renault Master van had been in collision with the man on the onslip to the A30 eastbound carriageway at Alphington junction.

He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 32-year-old man from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released by Devon and Cornwall Police under investigation.

A full investigation of the scene was completed and enquiries are continuing to determine the cause of the collision.

Officers from the Roads Policing Team are investigating the collision and asking for any witnesses to contact them.
