POLICE officers have issued a witness appeal after a crash left a man in his 20s in hospital with ‘serious injuries’.

Devon and Cornwall Police officers were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash involving a black Mercedes on the A358 Chard Road at Fordwater at 9.30 am on Sunday, June 21.

Police confirmed that a man in his 20s received serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

His next of kin are aware.

The road was closed on Sunday while an investigation was carried out at the scene.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed.

“Anyone with any relevant information and dash-cam footage which may assist the investigation is asked to contact Police via our website or by calling 101 quoting 50260159308.”

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service crews were also called to the scene in two fire engines.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "They confirmed this was a single vehicle, high speed collision, with the car hitting a tree.

"One person was still trapped, and two other casualties were out of the vehicle on our arrival."

Fire crews released the driver using hydraulic cutting equipment, and the driver was handed over to ambulance crews on scene.
