Chard Town FC have confirmed that Steve Redwood has been appointed as the club’s new first team manager.
Redwood takes the reins at the Somerset County League side following the departure of Andrew Holmes, who stepped down from the role after the 2025-26 season.
Speaking via a statement posted on the club’s social media, chairman Mark Parris said: “Steve is a fantastic charismatic guy, very enthusiastic and passionate, who wants to enjoy football.
“If he can inject his attributes into the playing squad, we will progress this season.
“We know Steve has other commitments outside of football, but has quality people around him, which is important.”
Redwood started playing senior football at the age of 16 for Chard Town’s local rivals Ilminster Town under the likes of Andy Fish and Tony Rice.
He moved to Chard Town as a player in 1998.
He enjoyed four seasons at Chard Town, playing as an attacking left-sided midfielder.
In 2002 he went to Street FC until a combination of injuries and children coming along meant he had to take a break from football before brief returns to Chard and Ilminster.
In 2015-16, Redwood moved into coaching/managing at East Coker alongside Nick Crittenden and they developed and coached the team from under 7s to under 16s in the floodlight league.
This will be Redwood’s first management role in senior football.
He will also continue working with Crittenden to lead the U18s.
Chard Town finished 10th in Somerset County League Premier last season having won 12 of their 28 games.
The club have also announced that Jason Manley will be Redwood’s assistant manager, Manley has played for Chard, Wellington, Frome and Street.
He has also managed Ilminster Town and Gillingham in Dorset.
Stuart Parris will also be part of the backroom staff having served as assistant manager and player at Zembard’s Lane.
