Chard Town FC looking for a new first team manager

Following three years leading the team, Holmes is leaving the role due to increased work and family commitments, according to a statement posted on social media.

The Robins finished the 2025-26 season in 10th place in Somerset County League Premier Division, securing 12 wins from 28 games.

A spokesman for the club said: “The club regrettably have to announce that First Team Manager Andrew Holmes (Homer), following three years at the helm, has stepped down as First Team Manager, due to increased work and family commitments.

“Homer, returned to the club in September 2023, following a spell as manager at Gillingham Town, who were then playing Western League Football.

“Chard was languishing at the bottom of the Somerset County League Premier division with one point from four games.

“His impact was immediate, picking up a point against unbeaten League leaders, Mendip Broadwalk and then going on an unbeaten 8 match run (6 wins and 2 draws).

“The club finished the season a respectable 8th position and have been comfortably a mid-table team ever since.

“During his three-year spell, he brought some good, experienced players to the club, but at the same time gave good opportunities to talented younger players progressing through the club's successful Western Counties Floodlight Youth U18 squad.

“The club would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Homer for his mild manner, professional commitment to the club and wish him, his wife Mel and their family every success for the future.”

The club are now inviting applicants for the role of first team manager.

A spokesman for the club said they are looking for someone with ‘strong leadership qualities’ and a ‘clear vision’ for senior football.

In their criteria, they also say they would like someone with experience and understanding of step 7 football or above and they ‘demonstrate an ability to attract and develop talented players’.

The successful applicant’s first job would be to deliver pre-season preparations for the 2026-27 campaign.
