Chard
Chard History Group
A history group meeting will explore the fascinating life of Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine.
Chard History Group will delve into the intriguing adventures of Queen Eleanor, wife to both French and English kings, in a presentation titled "The Power Behind the Thrones."
The talk, given by David Tozer, will cover Eleanor's contributions to the Crusades, the arts, and her time as a regent, along with her noted rebellions against her husband.
The presentation is scheduled for Thursday, May 14, at Chard Guildhall.
Doors open at 7pm, with the talk starting at 7.30pm.

Ilminster
Greenwich Trio
The Greenwich Trio is set to perform in Ilminster this week.
The ensemble of violinist Lana Trotovšek, cellist Heather Tuach, and pianist Yoko Misumi will play at the Ilminster Arts Centre on Friday, May 15.
Their repertoire will include works by Beethoven, Jennifer Higdon, and Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel.
The trio, formed in London in 2006, has received recognition for their performances, winning awards from the Solti Foundation and the Beethoven Society of Europe.
The performance begins at 7.30pm, with tickets priced at £20 and £5 for students.

South Petherton
Plumhall with guest appearance from Phil Beer
A folk duo is set to perform at The David Hall in South Petherton on Friday, May 15.
Plumhall, comprised of Michelle Plum and Nick B Hall, will be joined by Phil Beer of Show of Hands.
Known for their vocal harmonies and acoustic guitar work, Plumhall completed a 30-date tour with Fairport Convention in 2024.
The duo performed at the Costa Festival and joined Fairport again at the Cropredy Convention in 2024.
Their third album, One Star Awake, was released in June 2024.

3 Daft Monkeys
The band 3 Daft Monkeys are set to perform in South Petherton this weekend.
The performance is scheduled to take the stage at The David Hall on Saturday, May 16.
Their music blends Celtic and Eastern elements, with energetic rhythms that often inspire dancing.
The group attracted attention after a lively performance at Glastonbury Festival, which prompted BBC's Mark Radcliffe to name them one of his "highlights of the festival" during television coverage.
This led to an invitation to appear on the BBC Radio Two Folk Show.

Yeovil
Spice Girls – The Theatre Show
A Spice Girls stage show is coming to Yeovil this week.
The performers will take to the stage at Westlands Entertainment Venue on Friday, May 15, at 7.30pm.
The concert will celebrate the legacy of the iconic girl group, who achieved worldwide acclaim with hits like Wannabe, Stop, Say You’ll Be There, and Spice Up Your Life.
The Spice Girls hold the title of the biggest girl group ever, selling 85m records globally.
Tickets for the show are priced at £31, which includes a £1.50 ticket levy.
All bookings will also incur a £2 transaction fee.

Barry Steele – The Roy Orbison Story
A Roy Orbison tribute act is set to take the stage in Yeovil this week.
Barry Steele will honour the legendary musician at Westlands Entertainment Venue on Saturday, May 16, at 7.30pm.

This year marks what would have been Orbison's 90th birthday and 70 years since his first top ten hit, Ooby Dooby.
Mr Steele will perform some of Orbison's classic hits, such as Oh, Pretty Woman, Crying, and Only the Lonely.
He will also perform songs from the Traveling Wilburys, including Handle with Care and End of the Line.
