A variety of events are set to take place in South Somerset over the next week.

Chard

An Evening of Mediumship

A medium will be bringing messages from the afterlife in Chard this weekend.

Sonia Luff will be holding a session of spirit connection in Chard Guildhall on Saturday, May 9.

Starting at 7pm, attendees can expect an "uplifting and heartfelt" evening, focusing on interactions with spirits, messages, and purported evidence of life after death.

Entry to the event costs £5 on the night.

Crewkerne

The Wilbye Quartet

A music centre in Crewkerne will be hosting a fundraising event featuring the Wilbye Quartet.

The performance on Sunday, May 10, will take place at the South Somerset Music, offering a selection of madrigals, motets, and songs sung by the four voices of the quartet.

The event is set for 3pm to 4.10pm and proceeds raised will be in support of the centre.

Ilminster

Budapest Café Orchestra

The Budapest Café Orchestra is coming to Ilminster this week.

The quartet, renowned for playing folk music from Balkan, Russian, Hungarian, and Romanian traditions, will perform at Ilminster Arts Centre on Thursday, May 7, from 7.30pm to 10pm.

The group, which includes violin, guitar, accordion, double bass, saz, and balalaika players, was established in 2009 by British composer Christian Garrick.

Tickets are priced at £22, while students with valid ID can access the performance for £5.

South Petherton

Gaz Brookfield

A musician is set to perform in South Petherton as part of his upcoming tour.

Gaz Brookfield will visit The David Hall on Saturday, May 9, as part of his Almost All Village Halls Tour.

Mr Brookfield, known for his independent music career, has a record of selling out venues such as Bristol's The Fleece and SWX.

His latest album, Morning Walking Club, topped the UK Folk Album Charts.

Mr Brookfield, who often performs solo, sometimes appears with his band, The Company of Thieves.

His performance at The David Hall is scheduled for 8pm with tickets priced at £15.

Yeovil

Dr Louise Newson – Breaking The Cycle: The Power of Hormones

A theatre show in Yeovil will discuss hormones this week.

Dr Louise Newson will present Breaking the Cycle: The Power of Hormones at the Westlands Ballroom in Yeovil on Thursday, May 7, at 7.30pm.

The show promises to address the history and science of hormones, focusing on issues around misinformation and medical misogyny.

It also covers attempts to silence doctors and the resulting harm to women’s health.

Ticket prices start at £29.50, with a £1.50 ticket levy included in all stated ticket prices.

There are also concessions, discounted Footlights tickets, and a VIP package costing £51.50, which includes a meet and greet with Dr Newson.

A tribute to Neil Diamond is coming to Yeovil this week.

Hello Again: 60 Diamond Years' will take place at the Westlands Ballroom on Friday, May 8, at 7.30pm.

The production features many of Diamond's greatest hits, including Sweet Caroline, Cracklin’ Rosie, and Forever in Blue Jeans.

Groups of 10 or more can also benefit from a discount.
