A GROUP of Year 10 students from Chard ‘proudly’ represented their school and saw the Royal Family at a ceremony in Westminster Abbey.
On Thursday, March 12, 2026, a select few Year 10 Holyrood students went on a once-in-a-lifetime trip with their English teacher, Mrs Samantha Davidson, and headteacher, Mr David MacCormick, to London.
A spokesperson for Holyrood School, Chard, said the students were all seated in the second row, giving them an ‘exceptional vantage point’ as they all witnessed the Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration.
There, they witnessed King Charles, Queen Camilla, The Prince and Princess of Wales, The Princess Royal, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

The spokesperson for Holyrood Academy said: “From their prominent position, the students enjoyed a close view of the formal proceedings, including the entrance of the Royal Family, making this a memorable and inspiring experience for all involved.
“The visit provides pupils with a unique opportunity to witness an important national event, deepen their understanding of Commonwealth values, and experience the historic setting of Westminster Abbey.”
