STAFF at Holyrood Academy in Chard took part in the World Book Day festivities this year by dressing up as their favourite fictional characters.
The aim of the dress-up day for the staff was to show all students that reading can be fun and that you are never too young or old to love a good book.
A spokesperson for the school said: “We have worked so hard to establish a real reading for pleasure culture here at Holyrood, and our amazing staff body has used WBD this year to its fullest in order to show our students that reading can be really fun.”
All departments dressed up as characters from their favourite books, including Harry Potter, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland, 101 Dalmatians, Treasure Island, The Wizard of Oz, The Mr Men and Little Miss books, Mythos, and more.

Students were challenged throughout the day to discover the various staff members and take guesses as to which character they are, generating ‘fantastic conversations’ about favourite books.
Kat Wilsher, literacy lead at Holyrood, said: “I really had no idea how many staff would joyfully agree to dress up as book characters, but the pictures really do speak for themselves and are a testimony to our amazing staff body who are not only kind and work hard but also all love to join in.
“Reading for pleasure is at an all-time high here today, and our students really do feel that #readingiscool.”
