CHARD Garden Centre has announced its new owners and new name following on from the “incredible” legacy built by the previous owners.
Carl McDermott and Gill Vigus have taken the leap from careers in the RAF and project management to owning what was previously known as the Chard Garden Centre – taking over from Neil and Carol Cline.
Both have a keen interest in plants and have been gardening “all their lives” so thought this was a natural next step in their careers.
According to them, the updated name, Chard Plant and Garden Centre, reflects their “ongoing commitment to quality plants, expert gardening advice, and exceptional service.”
Carl McDermott said: “While our name may be evolving, the heart of what makes this place special remains the same.
“As an independent business, we remain dedicated to offering expert advice, high-quality plants, and a personal touch you won’t find elsewhere.”
Both Carl and Gill expressed their wish to honour the legacy built by Neil and Carol Cline, who, alongside their dedicated team, have created a “much-loved” destination for gardeners and visitors alike.
They said: “We want to honour the incredible legacy built by Neil and Carol Cline.
"Their passion, expertise, and hard work have made a lasting impact, and we are proud to build upon everything they have achieved.”
Part of that legacy is The Potting Shed Café, a popular spot, “renowned for its friendly atmosphere and delicious offerings”.
Having taken over the garden centre during the last week of March, Carl McDermott said: “This has been a steep learning curve.
“[I] could not have done it without the wonderful team inherited, who have a lot of knowledge.”
All 18 previous employees have transferred to the new business.
