Displaying a patient approach, Chard posted a total of 178 runs in 50 overs.
The significant contributions from Nathan Johnson (36) and Malcolm Cloete (35 off 38 balls) helped in achieving this feat.
Cloete also dominated when it came to bowling, culling the middle order to finish with figures of 4-36.
Assists from Oliver Legg, Jon Legg, and captain Chris Scott maintained Chard's course throughout.
Chard 2s also claimed victory on the same day, winning by 61 runs against South Petherton 1s.
The match saw Liam Cleal scoring an impressive 105, his first Saturday league century.
Chard's total of 243-6 in 40 overs was also helped by Paul Grinter (42) and Danny Cleal (40).
Defeat of the opposing team was only ensured after the departure of Richards, who managed 65 runs.
The primary damage to South Petherton was caused by Neil Wyatt, Andrew Clancy, and Scott Wells-Burr.
Captain Joe Draper and Tom Douglass both demonstrated exceptional bowling performances.

Frustratingly, it marked Chard's first loss of the weekend, by 124 runs.
Yeovil posted a total of 229, which Chard could only muster a reply of 105 runs.
Arabella Reid was the highlight amongst Chard's bowlers, achieving stats of 3-27.
She was well aided by Charlie Priddle who managed 3-31.
Chard's batting was primarily led by Darren Druce, who scored 60 runs, with contributions from Tom Douglass and Joseph Barrows.
