BOXERS from Chard Amateur Boxing Club were in action last week at Mackenzies Boxing Show in Poole, Dorset.

First up was Elena Everitt against Southampton's Lauren Junker.

Elena started using her long jab, catching her opponent regularly, and it wasn’t long before she also caught her with a good backhand, giving the referee no option but to give her a standing count.

Round Two continued the same way, and after another standing count the referee decided he’d seen enough and stopped the bout, handing the well deserved victory to chards Elena Everitt.

Next up was Chard's Charlie Bevan against Poole's Isa Khan in what was a good bout.

Charlie started off putting pressure on his taller opponent pushing him back on the ropes, Charlie kept up a high work rate constantly in his opponents face, although Khan was using his long jab catching Bevan as he came forward.

At the end of the 3 rounds, it was very close, but the judges liked the Chard boxers high work rate and awarded Charlie Bevan the points decision.

On Sunday Chard's Toby Ward travelled to Swindon to box Swindon’s Charlie Clark.

Clark started off fast but Toby kept his calm and kept to his boxing, as Clark’s work rate slowed, Toby started to catch his opponent with some good shots to the body.

Round 1 was close, but in round 2  Chards Toby ward started taking control, until unfortunately after a punch was landed by Toby, the Swindon boxers shoulder became momentarily dislocated.

The referee had no option but to stop the bout, awarding the decision to the Chard boxer.

All three Chard boxers will be in action again at Holyrood school, Chard on 23rd March, on the Chard Boxing Club's home show, together with the rest of the club's boxers.

In other news from the boxing club, star fighter Paul Roberts is getting set for the biggest fight of his career next week.

On March 9, he is travelling up to Scotland to fight for the Commonwealth Silver Light Flyweight Title.

Roberts said: "If anyone fancies a good away day let me know, now that my fights are getting bigger and bigger I'll be looking for more sponsors to come onboard to help with all the outgoings these fights involve, so if there are any local companies interested it would be a massive help."
