POLICE are investigating after receiving a report about a stolen tip jar from a Chard town centre business that left the owner “frustrated” and “gobsmacked”.
It happened on Thursday, January 11 at the SMS PC Repairs shop on the High Street.
The owner of the shop said: “My colleague said ‘Where is the tip jar?’ and I said, ‘I don’t know, do you think someone stole it?’
“It’s not something you would expect. Everyone in Chard seems to like us. We were just gobsmacked. We were a bit frustrated.
“We received a lot of support from the community and we just want to make sure it does not happen to any other small business in the town.”
An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “We received a report on Wednesday (January 17) that a tip jar had been stolen from an address in High Street, Chard.
“The incident took place shortly after 2.50pm on Thursday, January 11.
“Enquiries are ongoing.
“If you have any information that could help our investigation, call 101 quoting reference 5224014140.”
