A WOMAN shoplifter who stole a total of around £1,000 worth of alcohol on eight visits to Sainsbury's in Chard has been jailed.

Chelsea Louise Fouracre, 25, of Old Town, pleaded guilty at Taunton Magistrates' Court last week to her one-woman crime spree over nine days.

As well as admitting the eight theft charges and one of attempted theft, Fouracre was found guilty of three counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, which she had denied.

All the incidents took place in Chard between November 29 last year and December 7.

The court sentenced her to:

  • 14 weeks prison (concurrent) and ordered her to pay £400 compensation for stealing 12 bottles of gin worth £220, on November 29;
  • 14 weeks prison (concurrent) for stealing two four packs of Stella Artois worth £9, on November 29;
  • 14 weeks prison for stealing bottles of alcohol worth £300 on November 30;
  • nine weeks prison (concurrent) for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour on November 30;
  • nine weeks prison (concurrent) for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour on November on December 7;
  • 14 weeks prison (concurrent) for stealing eight to nine bottles and a pack of lager of value unknown on December 7;
  • 14 weeks prison (consecutive) for stealing seven bottles of vodka on December 7;
  • nine weeks prison (concurrent) for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour on December 4.
  • 14 weeks prison (concurrent) for stealing seven bottles of vodka and four bottles of Smirnoff worth £191 on December 4;
  • 14 weeks prison (concurrent) for attempting to steal seven lamb legs of a value unknown on December 3;
  • 14 weeks prison (concurrent) for stealing 14 bottles of alcohol of value unknown on December 2;
  • 14 weeks prison (concurrent) for stealing two four-packs of cider worth £10 on December 4.

Fouracre's total jail sentence is 28 weeks.

She was ordered by the magistrates to pay the £400 compensation to Sainsbury's at the rate of £30 a week starting on May 3.
