TWO of the five people arrested after an incident in Chard town centre were taken to hospital with “suspected stab wounds”.

Police said they were called in the early hours of Saturday, October 7, and attended reports of a “violent disorder” on Holyrood Street.

The force also said “the individuals arrested have been released on conditional police bail”.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “Two of the five arrested following the incident in Holyrood Street, in Chard, yesterday (Saturday 7 October) were taken to hospital with suspected stab wounds, one of whom remains in hospital. None of their injuries are thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

“This is being treated as an isolated incident and believe the individuals are likely to be known to each other.

“The individuals arrested have been released on conditional police bail. The scenes have been stood down and enquiries are ongoing.” 

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 2.52am on Saturday 7 October to an incident on Holyrood Street, Chard.

“We sent five double-crewed land ambulances, two hazardous area response teams, and two operations officers.

“We conveyed three patients by land ambulances to Musgrove Park Hospital and one patient by land ambulance to Yeovil District Hospital.”
