BRITAIN’S Disabled Strongman and Women Competition took place in Chard last weekend featuring a special head referee.
The event took place last weekend (August 26 and 27) at Holyrood Academy’s lower sports hall.
Former four-time World’s Strongest Man winner Magnús Ver Magnússon joined to judge the athletes competing in a variety of weightlifting challenges over the two days to test their strength.
The challenges included in the event, now in its eighth edition, were:
• Sled pull
• Trap bar hold
• Giant dumbbell press
• Yoke walk
• Axle press
• Atlas stones
Gary Clarke, who founded the tournament back in 2015, said: “A huge thank you goes out to all the sponsors and volunteers who have helped make this show possible, it really is an honour to put out a platform for these great athletes, they show people that anything is possible, it's all hard and heavy.
“Athletes train all year and each year the standard rises, we are all world-class athletes in our own right."
Gary, aged 45, has been powerlifting since he was a teenager.
He has previously competed at several international tournaments, including the World’s Strongest Disabled Man.
Since launching the British tournament, Gary has seen it grow year-on-year and says audiences can expect "a great showcase of strength".
