THE installation of new equipment at a play area in Chard has now been completed.

Chard Town Council said they are “delighted” to announce that work to upgrade Upper Henson Park have been completed and that the play area will open on Thursday, May 18.

A Chard Town Council spokesperson said: “Chard Town Council is delighted to announce the completion of the installation of the new equipment at Upper Henson Park.

“Grants received and council earmarked funds of £50K have been invested in the upgrades. We hope giving the park a new lease of life is well received by the local children and residents.

“The Mayor of Chard will officially open the park on Thursday, May 18 at 11am. We welcome anyone along who wishes to join us.”

Back in March, works began following consultation with schools and various youth groups, as well as a community-wide survey, and Chard Town Council worked to make upgrades to Upper Henson Park, near Avishayes Community School.

A spokesperson for the council said: “This will be an exciting facility and great benefit to the local community, which is hope will give the park a new lease of life and see greater levels of use.”

Wicksteed national sales manager, Lynne Egginton, previously said: “Wicksteed are excited to be involved in the works to Upper Henson Park, following a tendering process and extensive consultation.

“The original design has been adjusted to take into consideration these results including more challenging upper body equipment, such as monkey bars and a climbing wall.

“Mounding and long grasses will be introduced to give social spaces, where girls, in particular, can socialise, and see without being seen.

“Equipment is aimed primarily at the 8-13 years age group and is set to complement the existing.”
