AN UNSAFE bridge has prompted a 21-day closure of a footpath near Ilminster.

The closure, which was enforced yesterday, Thursday, November 24, will affect Footpath CH 14/11 from its junction with Footpath CH 32/21 until its junction with Footpath CH 14/9 due to an unsafe bridge.

During this time, all traffic will be prohibited and Ilminster Town Council said another closure might affect the area for a further six months.

A statement from the town council said: "Notice received for the closure of a footpath CH14/11 due to an unsafe bridge near Ilminster.
"This closure covers an initial 21-day period but please be aware that a further closure is likely after this one and will probably be for a further 6 months."

Somerset County Council said: “Take notice that in pursuance of Section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the County Council of Somerset hereby issues this notice prohibiting all traffic from proceeding along Footpath CH 14/11 from its junction with Footpath CH 32/21 in a westerly direction for approximately 90m and then in a northerly direction for approximately 150m until its junction with Footpath CH 14/9 due to an unsafe bridge.

“The closure will take effect from 24th November 2022 and will remain in force for 21 days. There is no alternative route available.

“For information about the works being carried out please contact Rachel Pearce on 01823 356001.”
