THE artwork of an artist from Crewkerne is being displayed in a London art gallery.

Amy Balch, 31, became a full-time artist two years ago and she specialises in dog and animal paintings.

Amy's work can be found at the Mall Gallery in London after the artist submitted her dog portraits just one day before the deadline.

The work selected for the exhibition is called 'She ain't the Queen' and is a painting of a corgi on a faux bank note in acrylic and ink.

Amy said: “I submitted my work the day before the deadline so I didn’t expect to get selected. The exhibition was first private and then open to the public.

“I sold some works before the exhibition was open to the public. It was really exciting as I have been a full-time artist for two years.

“It is a very important exhibition to be part of.

“I grew up on a farm and I was surrounded by animals and I used to join dog shows to show my dog.

“I have always been very creative and I studied fashion at university.

“It basically all started when I did a portrait of my mum’s dog and people asked for commissions and portraits of their dogs.

This is not the first time the Crewkerne artist’s exhibitions made it to London, as back in 2020 her works were showcased in Mayfair.

Amy added: “At the moment I am mainly working on commissions but I would like to work for big brands and do collaborations.”

Amy’s exhibition started last week, on November 11, and will be displayed at the Malls Gallery until Sunday, November 20 as part of The Discerning Eye series.

A message on The Discerning Eye website read: “The Discerning Eye is a visual art-focused educational charity, established in the UK in 1990.

“We aim to encourage a wider understanding and appreciation of the visual arts, to stimulate debate about the place and purpose of art in our society, and the contribution each one of us can make to its development.
