CHARD & Ilminster Boxing Club's successful start to the boxing season continued this weekend.
Just a few weeks after scoring three wins from three boxers in Poole, this weekend it was their own home show at Holyrood School in Chard.
This was the clubs first home show for five years, and the support turned out in force to make for a great atmosphere .
First up there were two skills bouts (non-competitive) for two of the clubs youngest boxers, Kyle Naish and Stan Pearse, who boxed well and showed great promise for competitive bouts in the future.
There were superb stoppage wins from Ilminster prospect Toby Ward, who had a brilliant win over Sturminster's Eddie Weedon, and local boxer Alex Saunders over Emeralds Thanilak Sully.
There were also great performances by the clubs, Bailey Nixon, Shane Hughes and James Coddington who had close points decisions go against them, but did themselves proud with their performances.
Last bout of the night was Chards highly popular boxer Fire Virk against Christchurch’s Stef Vincent. These 2 boxed in Poole earlier this month with the chard boxer winning.
This time Fire was introduced to the spectators with a deafening noise from the large home supporting crowd.
The noise and atmosphere continued throughout the bout, giving Fire all the encouragement he would need to score the 2nd win in a month over the Christchurch boxer.
After such a successful night for the Chard & Ilminster club, and their boxers, they will now be back at Holyrood school for their next home show in March next year, for a show that aims to be bigger and better again.
