ILMINSTER Carnival Committee has shared a message to thank everyone involved in this year’s event.

The carnival’s procession made its way through the town after “a difficult few years” and the committee said it was “wonderful” to see it back.

A spokesperson for the committee said: “Ilminster Carnival Committee would like to say a massive thank you to every carnival club, local group, majorette troupe, and all other entries for putting on such a great show on Saturday evening.

“After a difficult few years, it was wonderful to see the carnival procession make its way through Ilminster again.

“It was amazing to see so many people come to watch the carnival and show their support.

“We are so pleased to announce that a total of £3745 was collected on the night.

“Your generous donations will allow Ilminster Carnival to come back even stronger next year.

“Thank you to all the collectors and collecting vehicles, as well as everyone who helped count all the money on Sunday morning, your help and support is much appreciated.

“We have all missed carnival and to come back this year whilst celebrating 100 years of Ilminster Carnival has been brilliant.

“If you still haven’t got your copy of our 100th Anniversary Booklet, send us an email at ilminstercarnivalcommittee@hotmail.co.uk for more details.

“See you all next year.”

This year the carnival also marked its 100th anniversary, as the first edition was held in 1922.

Back then the carnival was known as llminster Hospital Carnival.

The event raised funds for the Taunton and Ilminster Hospital as well as the Ilminster and District Nursing Association.

Several initiatives were in place this year to celebrate this milestone, for example, the organisers created a limited edition souvenir Anniversary Booklet.
