AT SHEPTON Beauchamp Church School, staff and contractors have been very busy renovating the school’s playground ready for the new academic year.

The central priority for the £20,000 investment in the new school facilities, has been Shepton Church School’s careful planning to promote child independence in both learning and play.

Executive headteacher Connel Boyle commented: “For our youngest children in our reception class, we wanted our children to be empowered to choose their own play materials in order to develop creativity and language development through play.

“Our early results have been a pleasure to witness, watching creative play and firm friendships form even quicker due to our new facilities.”

The school has built a new decking area, with lighting for its reception aged children and infants, and a new all-weather surface pathway for bikes and trikes, which incorporates a new artificial grass area.

For the school’s junior-aged children, in Years 3 to 6, the school has additionally invested in two new fixed goals with basketball hoops.

The children have been over the moon with the developments and basketball has never been so popular.

Henry from Year 4 said: “The new playground is amazing, I love it because there are so many things to do.”
