TWO CHARD students are fundraising for a school trip to Cambodia to help build sustainable housing and schools.

Milly Tucker and Megan Wrenn, who study at Holyrood Academy in Chard, are taking part in different fundraising events to raise £3980 each to be able to fly to Cambodia next year.

The students’ trip is part of a Camps International scheme.

Milly and Megan, both 15, said: “In the summer of 2023, we are flying to Cambodia, Asia for a school trip with the company Camps International.

“We joined the camps international project because it seemed a great opportunity and we wanted to help those less fortunate than us and help strengthen other communities and their ways of life to provide them with the opportunities we take for granted.

“In Cambodia, we will be working as a team with other members of our school to build sustainable housing, schools, and other such facilities to help aid less fortunate families and children than ourselves; all whilst being immersed in their culture and taught all about their country and religion.

“To be able to go on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity trip we will need to raise a considerable amount of money.

“To achieve our goal of raising £3980 each, we will be taking part in various fundraising events.

“We have already organised and undertaken a variety of fundraising events.

“So far we have done a cake sale, two garage sales, a tombola at Horton Village Fate, and contacted local businesses to sponsor us on our promotional banner.

“So our next fundraiser is our sponsored walk and then on Sunday the 30th of October, Ilminster Bowling Club is running a quiz in aid of our expedition.”

The two students will also walk from Taunton to Bridgwater Canal on October 22 to raise funds.
