TO CELEBRATE its 100th anniversary, Ilminster Carnival has produced a 48-page souvenir booklet that looks back at the history of the carnival.

There are hundreds of photographs and articles from local carnival clubs and anyone interested can get your copy today from one of the following locations: Ilminster Home Hardware, Café Square, Silver Street Dairy, Ilminster Library, Greenslade Taylor Hunt, Ilminster Hair & Beauty, and Ilminster Arts Centre. We are asking for a suggested donation of £1.

At 6.30pm on carnival day (October 1) the sound of bells ringing will fill the town.

A peal of bells will take place at The Minster Church between 6.30pm and 7.00pm to mark 100 years of the carnival.

When the bells ring, make sure to head out to the streets of Ilminster, ready for the procession to make its way through the town.

There will be various road closures on Saturday, October 1.

Boxstone Cross to the junction of Bay Hill / Townsend will be closed from 2.30pm for the procession line-up.

Kingstone to Bay Hill (inbound) is closed from 2.30pm.
All other roads will close from 6pm (Bay Hill, Butts, East Street, Market Square, Silver Street, West Street, Station Road & Riec-Sur-Belon).

An official carnival car park at the Doctor’s Surgery Car Park along Canal Way will be available.

The car park will be open from 4.30pm and will cost £4, with all money going back into running the carnival.

There are various other public car parks throughout the town.

A carnival spokesperson said: "Please show your appreciation for the amazing entries at this year’s event by making a donation.

"There are many costs involved with running the carnival from road closures, insurance, health and safety equipment, and much more.

"These costs have greatly increased over the last couple years and your donations are needed more than ever."
