WESSEX Water is undertaking two projects on roads in Chard and Ilminster later this month.

The company are scheduled to carry out water mains work and so there will be road closures and new speed limits while this is taking place.

There will be water mains work near the Old A303 in Ilminster.
A Wessex Water spokesperson said: “Nearly £450,000 is being invested to improve water quality and ensure a more reliable supply in this area, with around 1,500 metres of iron water main being replaced, including sections on the old A303 road between Ilminster and Dillington.

“Work will start on Monday October 3 and temporary traffic lights and a speed restriction – down to 30 miles per hour from 60 miles per hour – will be in place until 25 November to allow this scheme to be completed safely.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused during this time.”

The Ilminster Town Council first made the public aware of these works on September 15, however the closures in place have slightly changed since then.

They said: “Please be aware that following our previous email, we have received notification of an extension of dates on a temporary 30mph speed limit on the Old A303 , Ilminster, in the parishes of Ilminster and Whitelackington.”

Ilminster Town Council added that this temporary speed limit is likely to be enforced up to and including October 25.
