CHARD Town Town Council paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with books of condolence, floral displays, and Proclamation.

All the councillors and staff at Chard Town Council are deeply saddened by the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who was very much loved and respected by people both in Britain and throughout the world and especially in the Commonwealth.

She has been a steady constant in a changing world and her energy, devotion to duty and sense of humour will be greatly missed.

The flag that flies above the Guildhall, Fore Street, Chard has been lowered to half-mast to offer our respects during this mourning period following all national protocols.

A book of condolences is available for the public at the Guildhall and will be accessible from 10am to 4pm until the day of the funeral which will take place on Monday, September 19.

An e-book of condolences has also been made available by Buckingham Palace online at this link.

Floral tributes can be left at the Guildhall.

The National Proclamation, the official announcement of Her Majesty’s death and acknowledgement of the commencement of the King’s new reign, took place at 11am on Saturday 10 September at St James’s Palace.

The first Local Proclamation was held in Taunton and then South Somerset District Council read the Proclamation at 4pm on Sunday 11 September at Yeovil Country Park.

Chard held its local proclamation at 6pm on Sunday, September 11 following the proclamation reading by SSDC.

There were over one hundred people who gathered in Fore Street outside the Guildhall to hear the Mayor of Chard, Cllr Martin Carnell, read the proclamation.

This was preceded by a prayer for the late Queen.

Following the reading of the proclamation, a prayer was said for King Charles III.
